The thing that strikes you most about WipEout 2048 is how beautiful it looks and sounds. There are so many intricate details on the ships and scenery and I love the way ships expel all sorts of gases and fumes as they race. The video billboards plastered onto the sides of buildings bring the world of anti-gravity racing to life [...]

Ever since Sony first released details of the PlayStation Vita way back in January last year (or the NGP – next-generation portable, as it was being called back then), I was immediately sold on the premise. Then we were treated to an amazing full reveal in June, showing off the Vita’s hardware and amazing line-up of triple-A games. Sony also [...]

I recently posted about the Controlled Quantum Levitation on a Wipe’Out Track video that appeared on YouTube over the Christmas period which I think signalled the start of Sony’s advertising campaign for wipEout 2048 on the PS Vita. I asked our resident graphics expert who has worked in the videogames industry for 13 years to comment on the video. Expert [...]

On JISTQuantum’s YouTube channel there is a single video entitled – Controlled Quantum Levitation on a Wipe’Out Track. This video shows two wipEout type ships racing around a small-scale track (Moa Therma from wipEout Pulse) that uses a magnetic field to keep them hovering above the surface. So Sony’s started the marketing campaign for wipEout 2048 then. Good job really [...]

The soundtrack to Sony Liverpool’s WipEout 2048 game has been revealed on the Japanese PS Vita website. It’s bad news for all those CoLD SToRAGE fans, like me, who were hoping for remixes of his iconic wipEout music which accounted for 8 of the 11 tracks in the first game. Anile – Change Of Direction (WipEout mix) Camo+Krooked – Breezeblock [...]

At last week’s Vita Rooms event the full build of wipEout 2048 was available to play. Not only did we record zone mode gameplay for the first time but we also captured a previously unannounced track on video. The new track is called Rockway Stadium and it joins Queen’s Mall, Empire Climb, Sol, Unity Square and Metro Park in the [...]

I attended the PS Vita Rooms event in London the other week. This open day allowed plenty of time to try out the various games and also getting used to the new hardware. That got me thinking about the viability of yet another piece of portable hardware. In this day and age it seems we’re loaded with more and more [...]

The full build of wipEout 2048 was on show at this week’s Vita Rooms event in London. It was also the first time Zone mode had been shown off in public. We’ve got some Zone mode gameplay to show you. Here’s a video of me playing the Unity Square track from season 2 of the game. Debbie and I talk [...]

Love wipEout games? Want to influence wipEout 2048? Now’s your chance to suggest a new type of weapon and get it in the upcoming PS Vita title. Stuart Tilley, the game director of wipEout 2048 told me during our interview that the weapon list in wipEout has not yet been finalised. Yes, many wipEout weapons are already in but the [...]

After Sony’s Gamescom 2011 press conference last week, I interviewed Stuart Tilley, Game Director of wipEout 2048 about the biggest change to the weapon system in wipEout history, track editors, voice activation, photo mode and the prospect of another wipEout game on the PlayStation 3. WipEout games have featured many different gameplay tweaks like the recharge lane in wipEout 2097. [...]

Here's a video of Game Director Stuart Tilley commentating whilst playing the New York track of wipEout 2048 on the PS Vita. Despite his claims, he does a great job of using the tilt and touch controls whilst talking to me about the game.

One of my personal highlights of this year’s E3 Expo was getting my hands on the beautiful PS Vita hardware and meeting some of the team behind wipEout 2048. If you’re an avid Average Gamer reader then you will already know that I’m a huge fan of the futuristic racing game series starting with the original wipEout game in 1995. [...]
