R-Type - Wii Virtual Console

Posted on 29 December 2006 by TheFluffyFist

R-TYPE - Now available to buy for all European Wii owners

RType-Krell

Finally! Last as usual - US release was 25th Dec 06 - but at least it’s cheaper (800 Wii points) than the Japanese version which costs a hefty 1200 Wii points (split into R-Type I and R-Type II each containing 4 levels).

If this version of R-Type is a big hit IREM might be persuaded to make (or re-release) some more R-Type games, even after R-Type Final was apparently the last game in the series. They even put final in the title to remind us.

Me? I’m playing R-Type at the moment (I wrote this post last night) whilst testing out my new Wii classic controller at the same time (Christmas gift from my brother).

I have just dloaded R-TYPE (yay) - and been trying it out on a PAL Wii with a RGB scart lead.

When you set your tv to be 60hz mode, it all runs fine and dandy - although with the slight bluriness that people have mentioned of wii turbografx games before (emulator output filters output?) - not a big deal, but would be great if they could fix it.

However if you have a PAL wii and your tv cannot support 60hz mode (unlucky you), then what you end up with is pretty shoddy - to get the games to run at 50hz they made them drop frames, so you get this subtle jerking going on as you play, not nice at all - but a damn good incentive to upgrade your tv.

The annoying thing about this is they dont tell you before you buy - they should detail these facts, so if some poor bugger cant run their tv at 60hz - then they should know the game wont run so nicely. And even if your tv can support 60hz, then they should at least tell you `best to play this game at 60hz`.

Damn, that sucks. I suppose from their POV it’s “compatible”.

I would like to see the latest R-Type as a download for Xbox Live but I’m sure that won’t happen due to the 100 megabyte filesize cap.

Yeah, won’t happen on the Xbox. It is annoying for people who have a 20Gb (too small by the way MS. Make some bigger HDDs) HDD to have the Xbox Live games crippled to their 50mb limit.

I just hope lots of people buy R-Type so we can play some of its sequels on the virtual console.
