Amiga Classics – Hunter

Posted on 22 February 2010 by TheFluffyFist

Hunter_Face.jpgShoot the rabbits, get in car, boat, helicopter and tank all in glorious 3D. What more could you ask for in a game.

When the Hunter was released in 1991 this game really was the GTA of its day. Although you didn’t really steal the vehicles, but you did kill people and bunnies! Hunter was a great, free roaming adventure game with a plot. Kill the general and escape. Simple. I loved it and so did Tikipod.

Today it looks like arse (or like a Wii game):

But it’s still a classic. Sit back, put on your nostalgia hat and enjoy:

Perfect Dark – Coming to Xbox Live in March 2010

Posted on 14 February 2010 by TheFluffyFist

PerfectDark_JoannaDark.jpgLooks like this is the closest that we will get to playing Goldeneye 007 on the Xbox 360, given that game is tangled up in all sorts of copyright ownership problems (i.e. Nintendo probably own it as it was a N64 exclusive).

When Perfect Dark was originally released on the N64 in 2000 it was just too ambitious a game for the hardware available at the time. Rare enhanced the GoldenEye 007 game engine (more gore, better lighting, higher screen resolution and various other enhancements) to a point arguably beyond what the N64 could cope with. This resulted in shockingly bad frame rates at frequent intervals through out the game. This tarnished what was otherwise an excellent game.

So now that Microsoft has announced that it has updated the original game with HD visuals we might now be able to see the game that Rare wanted us to play 10 years ago. Hopefully, Microsoft will have left all the hidden cheeses for us to find, just like in the original Perfect Dark.

Features:

  • Remastered full HD visuals:1080p at 60 frames per second and upgraded 3D models (characters, weapons) and locations.
  • Action-packed and authentic. Based on the original code. There are nine missions across 17 levels in solo, co-op and counter-op modes available.
  • Multiplayer modes. Battle online with up to eight players on Xbox LIVE over six different multiplayer scenarios across 16 levels.
  • Microsoft staff faces to replace the Nintendo staff faces featured in the original (e.g. Shigeru Miyamoto).

Perfect Dark will be released on the Xbox 360 (for 800 MS points) on the 17th March 2010.

Recorded Amiga Games – Longplay and speedruns

Posted on 18 May 2008 by TheFluffyFist

AMIGA_logoFor those of you who had an Amiga (A500 and A1200) like me, this website Recorded Amiga Games will bring back all sorts of happy memories. In my case it not only bought back memories of playing many, many of the games listed on the site, but also showed me the end levels of games I’d never completed.

Amiga classics like The Secret of Monkey Island, Stunt Car Racer, Turrican 2, Alien Breed II and Flashback are all available to watch in their entirety. Most of the videos consist of someone playing each game from start to finish (longplays), but there are several speedruns as well. Also you can either stream the videos (via YouTube) or download them from the Recorded Amiga Games website.

R-Type Command – English Version Available Soon

Posted on 13 February 2008 by TheFluffyFist

rtypecommandpackshotAtlus have just announced that the English language version of R-Type Command will be released in North America on the 6th May 2008. For the first time in the series the action is all turn-based strategy. Tikipod picked up the Japanese version a while back and seemed to like it. Personally, I decided to wait for the English release as the game is a little text heavy.

Some features of R-Type Command:

  • Intense strategy gameplay – Almost 100 different units to command
  • Control the Bydo forces – Hehe, time to attack Earth!
  • Head-to-head local multiplayer – One-on-one strategy battle time

Look out for my review when the US version drops through my letterbox in May. In the meantime you can gaze lovingly at the screenshot below. Ooooh, so pretty.

R-Type Command is released on the 6th May 08 on PSP (US version) for $39.99.
