There’s a new kid in UK gaming TV launching some time “in April”. They’re calling themselves XLeague.tv. They were announced a few weeks ago – GamesIndustry.biz has the details:
…XLEAGUE.TV will enable gamers to compete across the latest videogame platforms, in a wide variety of genres – including racing, third-person shooters and real-time strategy.
XLEAGUE.TV will integrate the latest news, reviews and chart shows within both online and broadcast platforms, with the website being a one-stop shop for all the latest gaming entertainment. In addition to this, all subscribers and players on XLEAGUE.TV will be provided with their own personal page to update their scores, fixtures and challenge other playters [sic] within open or season play.
GamesIndustry.biz – XLeague.tv Press Release
More to the point, there’s an “open day” in London this coming Thursday, 12th April 2007. From the ad:
We’re looking for presenters, commentators, gambits and more!
If you know your stuff about games and would like to know more, e-mail contact@xleague.tv
I did email them last Thursday to get a few more details. As it’s Easter weekend, I’m guessing there won’t be a reply until at least Tuesday. I’ll update this post if I hear anything more. In the meantime, you can head over to their website and have a gander at some trailers and video reviews. I, for one, was not enamoured by the voice-overs, particularly on the Gears of War review. Too much plot exposition, not enough review.
If you think you can do better, get in contact with them. You can find them at (surprisingly enough) http://www.xleague.tv/ or just use their email address above.

Edit 11th March 2007 No response from XLeague.tv to my email. Bit poor, really. Has anyone else heard from them?

I would like to join gaming television
Good to hear. Let the people over at XLeague.tv know. They should be able to provide more details.
Ummmmm, Weefz, will they really provide more details? You updated today and they haven’t responded to your email? Given that you’d provide something rather rare – a girl gamer who REALLY knows her stuff – they’d be hopping mad not to have you.
I’d take a look myself but I’m a good 293 miles away – so not worth the five hour drive really ha ha.
Yeah, I’m losing hope of hearing from this lot. Even a “Sorry, you’re not what we’re looking for” would be fine but they haven’t even bothered with that.
And thanks for the compliment :) There are plenty of other female gamesbloggers about – see The Iris Network Directory for a handy list. However yes, most of them are outside the UK and London.
I know that lots of companies outside of the games sector are bad at simply not replying… but in my experience people IN the sector are even worse. I met a couple of guys who run a dev studio (I won’t say who or where) but they weren’t nice people and even though we were in contact at the time their manners and replies were never very good. Same with a lot of other people I’ve spoken to in the industry. I guess people are just too busy to have manners and be nice!
Seems like a lot of companies in the UK run like that – not just games. I don’t know how they survive but they seem to manage. We know a few lovely people in the games industry. They’re all down in the trenches where the work is being done.
Anyway, I spent a while digging around and eventually came up with the direct email address of a couple of people from XLeague. Got a response from one of them the day after the screentests. Okay, it was too late but still better than the no response at all from the contact address.
