XLeague Launch Details

XLeague.tv Logo XLeague.tv (that new video game TV channel that don’t reply to their emails) have now announced their launch details. Sort of.

I have fairly mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, really good televised video game matches could be great fun to watch. On the other hand, player-view videos tend to be intensely dull. I’d like to see something that mixes player-cam with top-down views of the entire map/pitch/area showing the player locations. Is that even possible without some serious customisation?

A pre-match visualised tactical plan from each team could be entertaining as well. Watching a team’s tactics coming together (or failing) is the best part of spectating any sport. Flipping from one player to another can never really give you a sense of the whole match.

Here’s the opening game line-up. It’s not bad at all. They’ve stuck with the hi-def platforms so there’ll be none of that hideous PS2 quality video that has historically plagued gaming shows.

  • Pro Evolution Soccer 6
  • Rainbow Six: Vegas
  • Project Gotham Racing 3
  • Gears of War
  • Halo 2
  • Dead or Alive 4
  • Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Motorstorm
  • Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
  • Quake 4

They’re now launching online and on Sky in May 2007. No word as to what channel or even a launch date but they’ve spruced up their website a bit. Progress is being made.
