Brawl Busters Review (PC)

“Exuberant, colourful and very chatty release would like to meet casual gamers for cartoon-styled violence and good times.” Brawl Busters is the new over the shoulder deathmatch / co-op release from Rock Hippo. Like Team Fortress 2 it’s released as Free-2-Play and offers in-game currency for those who are time starved but still want weapons and plenty of ‘em. Whilst [...]

Saints Row: The Third Review (PS3)

Imagine a world where you can do what you want, when you want and get adored just for existing. As I covered in my hands-on preview at Gamescom 2011, Saints Row: The Third lets you live that fictional life while having fun in the most outrageous way possible. Amazingly Insane Your home for the majority of the game is the [...]

Rage Review (PS3)

A couple of years ago, I asked id Software’s Creative Director Tim Willits why they were calling their new game “Rage”. He replied that it was simply in keeping with their previous titles, such as Doom and Quake. This is not the response that I was expecting. Not that I was hoping for a game based around unrepentant anger, but [...]

Battlefield 3 Review (360)

When the Battlefield 3 Beta was stealthily hinted at by EA on their Twitter feed way back in February, the excitement generated by the gaming media and Internet alike was almost palpable. Rumours and hearsay had been circling since the very first announcement all the way back in 2009 and the beta just added fuel to that fire. Could it [...]

Space Marine Review (360)

In August I brought you my demo impressions of THQ’s third person shoot ‘n’ slash, Space Marine. Now it’s time for my full review. While the basics haven’t changed between the demo and the retail release, there is plenty more to talk about so rev up your chainsword and get ready to dive into the detailed world of the far [...]

Renegade Ops Review (360, XBLA)

Few titles capture the idea of the badass as well as this summer’s action blockbuster, Renegade Ops, available on the XBLA, PSN and Windows platforms. Developed by Avalanche Studios (the same folks that brought us serial ‘blow-up-everything-a-thon’ Just Cause) and published by Sega, this top down, vehicle-based shooter has the potential to be more enjoyable than watching Hans Gruber fall [...]

Bodycount Review (360)

Tesanga! And welcome to Codemaster’s latest FPS. Bodycount is touted as being the game with the realistically destructible environment. Want to hide in a poky little hut and shoot enemies through the wall? You can! Crouch behind an oil drum and try to snipe with a machine pistol? You can! Get stuck to little bits of not fully destructed realistically [...]

Renegade Ops – Hands-on Preview and Gameplay Vid (360)

With its lush tropical rainforest setting and my armoured car somersaulting off another huge jump before crashing through some handily placed straw huts, Renegade Ops has more than a whiff of Just Cause 2 about it. This is hardly surprising since that was the last game from Avalanche Studios. What struck me right from the off is that I had [...]

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine Demo Impressions (360)

There are some folks out there that maintain that Gears of War 3 by Epic and the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine game from THQ are essentially one and the same. Okay, so they both feature obscenely large men in bulky armor shooting anything that moves. Okay, so you spend a lot of time tearing apart anything that comes in [...]

Metro 2033 Review (PC)

I finished Metro 2033 after a recent Steam sale and now that the sequel, Metro 2033: Last Light, has appeared on the radar, I think it’s high time to talk about the game that everyone needs to play before the sequel comes out. Speaking generally of post-apocalyptic games which originate from the Ukraine, I really liked the concept of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: [...]

Brink Review (PS3)

Brink first grabbed my attention way back in December 2009, when Splash Damage released some very impressive videos, showing off the SMART free-running movement system and objective based gameplay. Brink appeared to have some great unique selling points, that would help it stand out in a sea of generic first person shooters, not least of which was the much vaunted eight player drop-in co-op feature. Now having finally been released to the world, how does the finished game match up to the initial hype?

Homefront Multiplayer Review (360)

After playing through and reviewing the single-player campaign, I was surprised to find a pretty robust multi-player component to Homefront. Sure, there aren’t a lot of maps but for a console FPS novice like myself it’s a serviceable enough release to keep me and a few thousand others occupied. The maps are based around levels from the single-player game and [...]
