The Average Gamer

Teach You How To Jerk

As everyone who's followed me on Twitter in the past 5 months will know, I love dance games. When we first checked out Kinect back in August, Dance Central was the one game that convinced me we absolutely had to buy it. In fact, it's the only Kinect game I play regularly – bloody brilliant cardiovascular workout and allows me to indulge my fantasy that I actually know how to move.

I do love to dance but never really learned how to do it properly. Well, okay I did Irish soft-shoe dancing for years and years as a child but contrary to what you may believe, neither the Four-Hand Reel nor The Walls of Limerick contain moves you can bust out in a London club. Nah, I'm more of the wave-your-arse-and-hands-around-vaguely-in-time-with-the-music sort of girl. But lo! Perhaps Xbox Dance Central will change all that! Break It Down mode does a brilliant job of teaching proper dance moves – during Glee's recent wedding episode one of their aisle steps is definitely used in the Crank Dat routine. In all honesty, if I ever hear Poker Face over the speakers in a club or a gaming press event, I will be looking around to see if anyone is doing the Dance Central routine. And I will join them.

Check out the video below. This is Cascada's Evacuate The Dancefloor, one of the more accessible routines.

It's a really fun dance but damn, that move that kicks in around 0:12 makes me dizzy as anything. Given that I have a habit of rocking back from the pub at midnight and putting on the game to burn off that booze-fuelled energy? Yeah, I shouldn't do that dance any more…

Yup, this was a sponsored post where I was asked to share my dancing experiences. Check back after New Year’s when I'll finally post my full review of Dance Central.
