Eurogamer Expo 2010 – Halo: Reach And Killzone 3 3D

Time to talk about 2 highly anticipated shooters that I got to play at the recent Eurogamer Expo, one of which you can play now (Halo:Reach) and the other you’ll have to wait until Feb 2011 (Killzone 3).

Halo: Reach

HaloReach_CloseUpInterestingly, my queue time for Halo: Reach was zero. Even though there were only a few Xbox 360s running Halo: Reach, people were more interested in the games in the immediate vicinity, i.e. Kinect – Dance Central! This was only the second time I’d played Halo: Reach, the first being at the Halo: Reach launch party event. It looked like Halo, played like Halo and wasn’t in 3D. Although I really like the Halo music (especially the title music), it was quite entertaining blasting aliens to the anthem of this year’s Eurogamer Expo – Lady Gaga’s Poker Face. I think someone should create a sci-fi/pop music FPS. That would be awesome.

Killzone 3 3D

Technically I didn’t play this game. Instead I crouched next to Tikipod with the spare pair of 3D glasses perched on my nose watching him kill the Helghast Empire. The 3D was impressive, especially when Helghast rockets go flying past your head as you really do feel part of the actionKillzone3_BigExplosion. I can see the attraction of first person shooter in 3D as it does really draw you into the on -screen action. To be honest, I didn’t have a problem the the quality of the graphics in Killzone 3. They looked good to me. Also, this is an alpha build of the game as it’s not due for release until February 2011. That’s a lot of time to optimise the game and make any improvements. Give them some slack people!

Sony are starting a Killzone 3 public beta on the 25th October which will give upto 15,000 people the chance to shooting each other before anyone else ;-)
