I am not a heterosexual man. As such, I feel that I’m probably not qualified to decide if videos of women are titillating or not. Nevertheless, I am a fan of equality and I despair of the hyper-sexualisation of women in so many games.
Another blogger has posted about Zoe Castillo’s opening sequence in Dreamfall. Specifically, he feels that it cheapened the tone of an otherwise positive female-friendly game.
I can’t see it. I didn’t it when I first played the game and I don’t see it now. So I’m turning to you, dear readers. Watch the following two 30-second videos of the scene in question and tell me what you think, in the poll and the comments. (The free poll software I found requires Javascript.)
Beware very, very minor spoilers, as one would expect from 60 seconds worth of in-game video clips.
Video 1:
Video 2.
This clip features Wonkers. He’s the “Watilla” I talked about in my Dreamfall review back in May. He’s super-cute, huh? I still want one…
Here’s the poll
I’m not haven’t linked or posted exact quotes from the original site as I don’t want to bias anybody’s opinion. I’ll link to the post that inspired this one when the results are in.

I don’t see anything provocaive about it either. Sure.. she’s lying on the bed watching TV in pretty skimpy clothing but she’s hardly doing anything provocative or sensual – just watching the news and waving her feet around. Even if she was a more attractive 3d model it would still be a long way off titillating.
I would have ticked the ‘boring’ option, but having not played the actual game I felt that would have been unfair as it may be quite relevant to the plot / story / character so I just plumped for option 4. However, from a outsiders point of view it (the video) hardly ’sells the game’ to me.

I agree with Zoggles. This trailer presents the game fairly poorly imo, although perhaps that’s because the game is boring. I wouldn’t know. Anyways, Zoe’s body is toned and feminine, but I think it’s a long shot from sensual and/or erotic.
PS the Preview function at the bottom of the screen is really cool ;)

Oh, it’s not a trailer out to sell the game. It’s an in-game cutscene – the intro to the main playable character. Thanks for your votes.
The preview function is the Live Comment Preview plugin for Wordpress. Very handy :)

I think that this is, as usual, someone actually looking to find something to take offence at. She’s in a small(ish) top and some hotpants. Oh my g.o.d. Someone call the fire brigade as she’s too hot! Nope, no she isn’t. I think this does in some way pander to the fantasy of ‘women sitting around in their pants’ but by the same token I’d hardly call the camera angles gratuitous. I’d say the far greater issue here is for a game that looked as though it takes itself reasonably seriously there is a weird gorilla monster thing that looks like it has no place in a nightmare of mine let alone a game! The voice acting also sounds a little bit… Well odd.

I don’t see it, either. She’s a teenager, in Casablanca where it’s REALLY hot so why shouldn’t she be sleeping in that? I think it adds to the realism of the game, because when I’m bored and I don’t feel like doing anything, I usually also sit infront of the tv all day with my jammies on :P

I don’t know what are you talking about cause I couldn’t download their
Trailer but I see some of the picture on gamespot.com you took down
but I don’t think so their is a any problem
However i could download their official Soundtrack (.WMV)
It’s too good and i say ,I played lot of RPG games like oblivion , Pirates of the Caribbean but they aren’t too good and they don’t have any
Suggestive themes like this with out using mods

Hey, that’s a good point. I did like the soundtrack and I meant to look for it. Thanks for reminding me, Avloan.
