More and more frequently, I’ve been hearing that people no longer want to play dice-roll RPGs. Upcoming MMORPG TERA might well be your thing. Late on a Tuesday afternoon last month I was escorted into a giant tree filled with technology to check out TERA from Bluehole Studio. Yes, it’s yet another fantasy MMO with buxom babes and humongous hunks. [...]

After a rather long wait to get into the game, I am pleased to say I was pleasantly surprised. Been playing with a old gaming colleague Azik… he’s well impressed, which is something since all he’s really done is say every game is not EQ1 since we stopped playing back in 2003. The character creation is flexible, but does not [...]

Introducing another of our new contributors, Dan Crawley is 35 years old, and started gaming in 1982, on a beautiful, but stubborn, ZX81. He enjoys playing classic Nintendo platformers, first person shooters and some of the more innovative PSN and WiiWare titles. Dan’s two favourite games from the last ten years have been Ico and Valkyria Chronicles. When I put [...]

What with Fallout: New Vegas coming next month, this seems like a good time to look back at 2008′s Fallout 3. Happy to say that Fallout 3 is a bloody brilliant game. I’m always impressed by the RPGs from Bethesda Softworks and even 2 years after release, this lives up to their high standards. Despite dropping you in the uninhabitable [...]

An RPG? From BioWare? Weefz is all over that.

Long-time readers of The Average Gamer may have noticed a certain tendency on my part. Every once in a while I come over all excitable about some aspect of gaming. I’ll write an entire series of posts about it. Then the series stops. Abruptly. I do apologise. Here is part 4 of How To Write an RPG Journal – Maps. [...]

I found web-based Flash game Murloc RPG at XGenStudios, who also host Defend Your Castle. Apparently Gamer Disclaimer is a bit of a World of Warcraft fan. Rather than hoping for Blizzard to make Murlocs into a playable race, (s)he decided to write (her/)his own 5MB flash game. It was featured in the WoW Community Spotlight back in October. Murloc [...]

Dungeon Master is a bloody brilliant game, period. It’s a game that I’ve spent a lot of time playing over the years on several different platforms (Atari ST, Amiga and PC Engine). Originally released on the Atari ST in 1987 by the now defunct developer FTL, Dungeon Master was an instant classic as well as being the first real-time 3D [...]

RF Online ships this week. I fired up the RF Online beta last week and puttered around as a Cora Ranger for two or three hours – I couldn’t find a single reason to continue playing it. I realise that it was still unfinished but this game sucks like a Dyson!
