The Bitmap Brothers: Universe Book Kickstarter

The Bitmap Brothers - Rock star PoseDuring the late 1980s and early 1990s, The Bitmap Brothers were the rock star developers of the 16-bit era. They were responsible for many of the best Commodore Amiga games ever released including Xenon II: Megablast, Speedball, Speedball 2, Gods, Cadaver and The Chaos Engine. Their games also featured music from 90s pop stars Bomb the Bass, Betty Boo and Nation 12.

Xenon, their first game became part of Saturday morning kids TV show Get Fresh. Viewers were asked to call the show and control the game by way of simple voice commands down the phone. When you add in the anarchic humor of Gilbert the Alien and Gaz Top you had a really entertaining show. It also did wonders for the Bitmaps career.

Now you can read the story behind the games as Read Only Memory, creator of Sensible Software 1986-1999 book has just launched The Bitmap Brothers: Universe book kickstarter and it’s nearly 50% funded already.

Personally, I loved the Sensible Software book to bits so backing this new kickstarter was a no brainer for me. I’m also hoping the next one will be about Factor 5, the developers behind the hugely enjoyable Turrican series of games.
