Nintendo Direct: Kirby 3DS, Dual Destinies and Bravely Default + Trailers

Nintendo Direct Europe October Satoru Shibata
Today’s Nintendo Direct covered a range of announcements for both 3DS and Wii U.

Wii Party U Minigames: Three new minigames were revealed.

  • Water Runners – Place the Wii U gamepad on the floor and it shows stream running across the ground. Players use Wiimotes as ladles to carry water to the jars on the screen.
  • Folk Dance Fever – Dance around your gamepad in your living room instead of your handbags in da club
  • Button Battle – it’s like Twister on Wii Remotes. You should probably just stick to using your fingers and not your feet though.

Wii Party U Minigames comes with a horizontal stand for your gamepad to keep it stable when you have people pressing on buttons all over the place.

DK Country Tropical Freeze. Nintendo said “We need a little more time for development for this title.” The release date has pushed back to 2014.

Mario and Sonic at Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games: Players will be able to simultaneously compete over the internet in a variety of snowbound games. Every medal you earn online counts towards your country’s total, rather like the actual Olympics.

Super Smash Bros 3DS and Wii U: Sonic is coming to the line-up.

Pikmin 3: In a free update today, the Global Rankings will be improved so that you can see the highest score in the world for each stage. There will also be a new add-on mission stage for Pikmin players.

A new Collect Treasure pack DLC pack is out now for Mission Mode stages 7-10. You should download the free update before buying the DLC pack.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: This game will break the unwritten rules that you only get new items from dungeons and that the dungeon’s puzzles will be solved using that item. In the new game, you’ll be able to buy many items from Ravio’s shop and decide how you want to tackle each dungeon. This implies that there are multiple ways to get through each dungeon.

Nintendo said that some commenters on Twitter observed that Ravio the shop owner looks like Nabbit from New Super Mario Bros U. They’re not related.

A Link Between Worlds will be launched on 22nd November in Europe.

Kirby: A new Kirby is coming to the 3DS in 2014. They haven’t revealed the title yet.

Wii Karaoke U by Joysound: Coming to Europe as a free download from 4th October. Each Wii U gets 1 free hour and you buy timed tickets from the eShop.

  • 1 hour: £1.79
  • 24 hours: £4.49
  • 30 days: £13.49

It will launch with 1500 songs and allow you to customise your Miis, share scores in Miiverse and more.

Sonic: Lost World: They showed a new trailer. Sonic can vault over obstacles, cling onto ledges and leap from wall to wall. They’ve turbo harged the homing attack and brought back colour powers, alongside a whole set of weird new powers.

Scribblenauts Unlimited: This will be out in Europe from 6th December

Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies: We saw a voiced trailer introducing Athena Sykes. You can read more about Athena from my E3 preview. The game will be out exclusively from the eShop on 24th October.

Bravely Default: This RPG from Square Enix will be the enhanced edition from the Japanese original, that includes animated characters in conversations, three new difficulty settings and the ability to adjust enemy encounter rates. You can listen to Japanese or English audio with additional text options for French, Italian, German and Spanish.

If you pre-order the game from participating retailers, you’ll also get an artbook.

Bravely Default will be released in Europe on 6th December.
