CD Project RED have announced that the upcoming open-world game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is definitely coming to PlayStation 4.

“It was an exciting moment to be invited to be in the company of other legendary developers like Bethesda, EA, LucasArts, Ubisoft or Activision as one of the teams working on titles shipping early in the PlayStation 4’s lifecycle.” said Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt RED studio, in a quote that’s exciting for them and dull as dishwater to the rest of us.

Gamers who missed out on the previous PC-only Witcher and PC/Xbox 360 Witcher 2 need not feel lost – the new adventure will be a completely standalone story that somehow also manages to round off the trilogy of Geralt of Rivia. Presumably there’ll be some backstory videos for the new players.

In an interview with GameInformer, Lead Writer Marcin Blacha and Senior Writer Borys Pugacz Muraszkiewicz discussed the main premise of The Witcher 3.

Speaking about The Witcher 3’s enemy “It’s not an ancient evil, like gods or demons or something high fantasy-ish. It’s Geralt’s personal nemesis,” said Blacha.

“But we do have this threat,” continued Muraszkiewicz. “It’s both a threat to the human race and at the same time, a personal threat to Geralt and his loved ones. As a sterile witcher who could never possibly have a family, for those who he could consider his kin, there is this dark force that threatens them and it does affect him.”

“He’s not a kid, he’s not looking for adventure. He wants to be left alone.”

“Geralt is done with being a pure adventure-seeker. Life is no longer abut that especially when he’s so close to finding the people who’re so important to him. It takes us into more mature territory as far as themes go. It is going to be about figuring out relationships that are important to him.”
