PlayStation 4 Announced. Bullet Points Here

The PlayStation 4 was announced in the early hours of this morning, as widely expected from Sony. Here are the key facts.

  • It’s definitely called the PlayStation 4
  • It has an integrated PS Move
  • It has speedy 8GB RAM and some other techie stuff that you can look up elsewhere because *yawn*.
  • The PlayStation controller looks like this

Check out Debbie’s reaction to the controller on the DualShock 4 page.
  • The rectangular middle bit is a touchpad
  • The glowy blue light is for the PS Move
  • There’s a share button, the little blobby thing to the top right of the D-pad in the first pic
  • The PS4 will ship with a headset that plugs into the controller
  • The Move camera looks like this:

Features:

  • Social network integration is built in, what with that share button
  • Always-on video recording and ability to upload brag clips of awesome/terrible moments
  • Instant sleep mode lets you turn it off, then resume gameplay where you left off
  • No backwards compatibility, but
  • Gaikai will allow you to stream PS4 games to the Vita and eventually play older games on the PS4 (but probably not at launch)

And the games:

  • Deep Down, presumably a new IP from Capcom – something about a soldier approaching a fire-breathing dragon
  • Driveclub – a racing game from Evolution Studios (No! *clutches pearls*)
  • A Media Molecule Move game
  • The Witness from Braid developer Jonathan Blow
  • Something unspecified from Quantic Dream
  • Killzone: Shadowfall
  • A new game called Knack from Mark Cerny
  • Destiny from Bungie will be on PS3 and PS4.
  • inFamous: Second Son (Wait, did we really care enough about inFamous to warrant another
    sequel?)
  • Watch_Dogs from Ubisoft, announced last year. Hack the city’s facilities to your whim.
  • A new Final Fantasy will be revealed at E3
  • Diablo 3 from Blizzard

Plus a bunch more companies mentioned in passing but not discussed.

So that’s it. New console. No reveal of its design, nor price but it’s probably well expensive. Are you likely to start saving up the pennies just yet?
