King Arthur II – Min Spec Warning

This would have been a review of King Arthur II – The Role-Playing Wargame, I was poised to bring you pithy observations and useful comparisons between it and games you actually enjoy. Then a case of “underpowered PC” struck when I was least expecting it.

My current machine specs…

  • Core 2 Duo 2GHz
  • ATi HD5770
  • 3GB Ram
  • Windows 7 64bit

…and therefore it meets the minimum spec for the game:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo (2 GHz) or equivalent
  • 1.5 Gbyte RAM (XP) or 2 Gbyte RAM (Vista, Win7)
  • ATI 3850 512MB/Nvidia 8800GT 512MB

It was a bit of a surprise. Whether it’s because my version of the game might be pre-release or whether Paradox and NeocoreGames were a little generous on the actual tech requirements I can’t say, though I didn’t struggle with Skyrim on reasonably pretty settings so I’m a bit puzzled.

Even with everything dialled right down, DirectX 9 (instead of DX11) and a dropped resolution I wasn’t able to move the camera during a battle. When I commanded my cavalry to attack they proceeded to charge headlong towards the enemy at around 3 FPS. What I can tell you is, unless you like really long introductions that you have to button mash the Esc key through, you might want to grow some patience before attempting this one. I intend to give it a proper go when I get a new PC later this week. Sweet justification.
