What’s good about Shank?

So readers, tell me about this Western-theme XBLA game, Shank. A big chunk of my Twitter Games feed was talking about it at launch, so I downloaded the demo. Not impressed. It looks to me like a bog-standard 2-D beat-em-up scroller with some fancy blood effects and humourous rape thrown in. [BTW, that last link is a very serious article. Please be respectful.]

The official site shows that it’s getting great reviews from all over. So tell me, astute fellow gamers: Where’s the appeal in Shank?
