Richard Joseph - R.I.P

Posted on 05 March 2007 by TheFluffyFist

Sadly Richard Joseph lost his battle against lung cancer yesterday, he was 53. Some of you may already know of Richard’s massive contribution to videogame music over the past 20 years, but for those of you who don’t here’s a short list of just some of the classic games that he composed the music for was responsible for the in-game music/sound:

  • Cannon Fodder
  • Sensible World of Soccer (SWOS)
  • Wizkid
  • Mega-Lo-Mania
  • Chaos Engine
  • Gods
  • Magic Pockets
  • Speedball 2
  • Evil Genius (as audio director)

Just last year I included Richard Joseph in my favourite game musicians post. It is sad to think that just over a year later he would no longer be with us.

You can listen to many of his fantastic Amiga music tracks at amigamusic.com (requires registration).

good 80s composer, but didn’t write the music for speedball2 and evil genius as you state.

Yep, your correct, he didn’t write the music for Evil Genius, he was the audio director. I’ve updated the post.
Speedball 2’s title music composed by Nation 12 but the music code and in-game fx were all by Richard Joseph.

All The Bitmap Brother’s and Sensible Software games were released in the 90’s and Evil Genius was released in 2004 (not that anyone noticed).
