The Average Gamer

Obligatory “I got my DS Lite” post

Well, I did. It’s black and shiny and bright and nice. Also now covered in fingerprints. And nobody freaking mentioned that it’s not compatible with the SP charger! Well, except for GamePro. And Gamespot. Obviously I didn’t read them until just now.

So now I have three options:

  1. Convince my boyfriend to buy a DS Lite. Not gonna happen before a Zelda game comes out for it.
  2. Buy a spare charger for £8.99. I’ll think about it but I did just wipe out my entire month’s disposable income on the DS Lite itself. I only got paid yesterday!
  3. Carry my charger to my boyfriend’s house whenever I stay round. Cheap option but kinda defeats the entire purpose of my upgrading to the Lite in the first place.

I’ll probably just end up spending the extra money, as usual. And I was so pleased when I found out that my original DS was compatible with his SP charger. Stupid Nintendo. What’s the advantage of this change anyway? Do they make a commission on tie-in products?

For anyone thinking of trading in a DS Heavy with slight cosmetic damage in central London, GAME are your best bet. A small amount of the blue finish on mine had rubbed off but they still gave me their full £45 trade value. Computer Exchange on Rathbone Place didn’t have any DS Lites and would only offer me £30 instead of the full £37 cash trade value. I went there first, all ready to support independent retailers but not if it costs me fifteen quid extra. I think my loyalty and ethics are priced somewhere around a fiver. Game Focus on Goodge Street also had no new DS lites but didn’t care about the damage and offered me their full £35 cash value. As of this afternoon they did have a second-hand Navy DS Lite going for £120 so if anyone’s interested and rich, best get down there quick.
