Polarium Review (DS)

Age Rating: 3+

What is it?Polarium box art

A tetris-like 2-colour puzzle game where you try to clear a board by creating rows that are all black or all white.

Is it fun?

Yes, if you like 2D puzzles.

Is it worth the money? £19.99

Not really, but £12 from GamesExchange is okay.

Why?

You play by flipping puzzles pieces between black and white. Once you have made a row all the same colour, it disappears and remaining rows drop down Tetris-style. I like puzzle mode, where you get a pattern and you have to draw a single line to clear the entire board. Easy to start with but once you hit the twnety-fifth puzzle you really have to think carefully. There are a hundred set puzzles in all, plus some unlockables and a custom designer to make your own.

Challenge mode is more like Tetris but instead of bricks dropping down, you get an entire block of four rows dropping down, so you have to move pretty quickly to clear the thing, since there are only about twenty rows on the screen. I get the feeling it might be good playing against someone else, but sice I don’t know anyone with a DS, I can’t try this out. It’s a bit boring by yourself.
