Generally, Christmas is a time of excess. Mince pies are consumed by the dozen and the mere mention of fitness is banished to the naughty step with the rest of the never-fulfilled New Year’s resolutions. Where the only exercise you’ll see is two people trying to hold on to just a bit more of a cracker, so they can be [...]

THQ dominated the motion-controlled fitness games market earlier this year with the brutal UFC: Personal Trainer. In a move of unprecedented grandeur they managed to gear 50 games industry folks forward into a month of press-ups and demonic v-ups all in the name of a trip to Las Vegas and the loss of a few extra pounds. Perhaps then Deepak [...]

Welcome friends, followers, fellow gamers and fitness fanatics. This is the final tale of my journey to better health and a higher gamerscore. As those of you who have followed from the beginning will be aware I have been taking part in a challenge set by trade publication MCV in partnership with THQ. MCV called for games industry workers from [...]

Welcome back faithful readers to this week’s wonderful edition of To Kill a Gamer. Of course I am talking about my UFC 30 day challenge. Last week’s article discussed me battling T-push ups and family events to maintain my steely composure. This week I tackled dinosaurs.

Family events confronted me with my first real “challenge” of this challenge. A meal out at the pub without drinking or majorly pigging out was a formidable opponent. Despite the battle being played out on their home turf, the twin temptations of pub grub and foamy beers fell to my steely new resolve.

Hey everyone, welcome back to my training diary. As some of you will remember, last week’s entry covered my first 5 days with UFC: Personal Trainer. This week saw me push my body to the limits and experience both the highs and lows of an intense console-based workout. For those of you who are joining me fresh this week, UFC: [...]

I have a confession to make. I fit into the media stereotype of a gamer quite well; beardy, long-haired and overweight. I also lack in confidence partly due to my body image and while I am all too happy spilling words out on to the Internet, I often fail in social situations. This is all going to change.

Up here in TAG Towers we’ve been all over the movement games. On the Move I was a big fan of Sports Champions until I dislocated my shoulder in a particularly violent bout of two-player gladiator that put me out of action for a week. Luckily, I have hypermobile joints so no long-term damage done. We’ve also previewed Your Shape: [...]

Here is the list of games that will be available to buy when Kinect hits the shops on the 11th Nov 2010. There seems to be a bias towards fitness and dancing games amongst these first releases. I do hope developers get a bit more creative with the later releases. Kinect Adventures is bundled with the Kinect so you can’t [...]

The Wii really is getting people to work out. Bob Casswell at computers.net has posted an extract from a Wall Street Online that requires subscription: “It’s harder than playing basketball,” says Kaitlin Franke, a 12-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky. She’s mostly into the bowling and boxing games, which require some practice of specific motions and fancy footwork. In Rochester, Minnesota, Jeremy [...]
