Battlefield Hardline was released this week, the militarised cops and robbers version of the popular FPS series.

The single-player campaign has been described as “memorable, innovative and worth playing“. It follows the story of Nick Mendoza, a detective travelling across the country in a plethora of vehicles to seek revenge on dirty cops through the medium of spectacular explosions and bullet-spray.

On the multiplayer side, you’ll be robbing bank vaults in Heist mode, or hunting criminals to prevent them from getting away with the goods. Rescue mode casts you as a SWAT team member saving people from the criminals and leading them to safety. Blood Money has the two teams fighting to rob each other’s vaults while Crosshair will have you duking it out over a VIP criminal-turned-state’s witness.

In more traditional modes, there’s also Conquest – fight over the capture points – and Team Deathmatch.

“Our goal with Battlefield Hardline was to create the most complete first-person shooter this year by building upon the unrivaled multiplayer franchise DICE created and adding a memorable single player experience with storylines and characters that fans will care about just like they would their favorite TV show,” said Steve Papoutsis, General Manager of Visceral Games and Executive Producer of Battlefield Hardline. “We’ve added a new level of strategy, speed and storytelling to one of the greatest franchises in the history of videogames. We’re incredibly excited for players to get their hands on it.”

The voice cast features Alexandra Daddario (Lisa Tragnetti from True Detective) Kelly Hu (China White from Arrow) and Benito Martinez (Hector Mendoza from House of Cards) with Wendy Calhoun as narrative consultant (co-producer on 2011’s Justified).
