Total War: Rome II Video Re-enacts Battle of Teutoburg

Battle of Teutoburg - Quintet on Cliff
A few weeks back I showed you the giant Total War: Rome II “screenshot” showing a re-enactment the historic Battle of Teutoburg. The Creative Assembly have now created a video that recreates that very battle while showing off the (pre-alpha) gameplay features.

As I pointed out previously, the level of detail in watching the soldiers clash, or the horses sending infantry flying, is simply beautiful. The narrator plays as the Romans, beset by Germanian troops hiding in the forest. You’ll see the cavalry smashing through a legion of nearby archers, war hounds charging soldiers and flames raining down on fleeing legionaries.

There’s also a tactical map that shows an overhead view [2:15], making it much easier to find your troops and see the whole battlefield. If you’re confident in your battle strategy then maybe use the unit camera [2:40] to follow your troops and watch the action play out from a soldier’s point of view.

We never do find out who those 5 warriors on the clifftop are. The mystery of the five men on the clifftop is solved! As a friendly SEGA PR pointed out to me, you can clearly see Arminius there in his wolf’s fur hat thing. This is the band at the end of the video that tracks down and kills Varus in the forest after he flees the battlefield. Amazing detail.
