Another Olympic Browser Game – The Guardian

Looks like the Olympic-themed games are all coming out of the woodwork now, less than a week before the Olympics opening ceremony (Friday, 9pm. You should watch it).

Following last week’s Channel 4 and Sainsbury’s game to publicising Paralympic Blind Football, the Guardian’s Interactive team have produced a retro-themed game that puts you in the shoes of an athlete competing against the best of the best across the ages.

You have four events:

  • 100m sprint
  • 100m freestyle
  • Cycling road race
  • 10km run

After the road race almost destroyed both me and my keyboard, I haven’t dared try the 10km run but the other events are a pleasing throwback to 80s games like Daley Thompson’s Decathlon only with slightly worse graphics.

Even better, you can unlock the animals and race against a shark, a cheetah, a duck or, umm… Pegasus. You have to link it to Facebook though.

Play the Guardian’s “Could you be a medallist” Olympics game.
