Battlefield 3 Features Full Squad Management and Team Chat

Many Battlefield 3 Beta participants have been expressing their concern on the Battlelog forums, over what appeared to be a non-existent in-game squad management system. It now seems that DICE have responded to this feedback, in the form of an FAQ published by Bazajaytee. This confirms that full squad management options will be available in the finished game, along with both squad and team voice chat options.

The official statement reads as follows:

HOW WILL SQUADS WORK IN THE RETAIL VERSION OF BATTLEFIELD 3 ON PC/XBOX 360/PLAYSTATION 3?

Since the Open BETA we’ve added more advanced functionality to manage your squad. You will be able to browse and join specific squads through the squad screen. You can see all players that are in a specific squad as well as who’s playing as lone wolf. As a squad leader you can set your squad to private as well as kick players from the squad.

On console you will also be able to choose if you want the active VoIP channel to be team or squad and invite friends to your squad. You will also be able to mute any player on your team through the scoreboard.

This is great news, and will no doubt reassure many Battlefield players that the Beta content is  unrepresentative of the final product in many ways.  It does however beg the question of why the Beta was released when it was missing such a core component, and also why it has taken nearly two weeks for an official statement on the issue to be relayed to the community?

Moaning aside, I can now look forward to hitting the Battlefield later this month with some of my fears allayed, which is a nice positive way to end the week. With the inclusion of team chat, I can also look forward to swearing at the guy who next tries to steal my tank whilst I’m trying to repair it. You have been warned.

With thanks to Runcorn for the heads up.
