Nintendo World Wi-Fi Challenge at Canary Wharf

Bit late in announcing this but I only found out last night. Nintendo are running competitions this week for the best Metroid Prime: Hunters, Mario Kart and Tetris DS players.

“For every ‘top three finish’ you win Global Player Points, with the five highest scoring Global Players going on to compete in a Grand Final taking place Friday 25th August 2006 at the Reuters Plaza”

Prizes:

  • Winner of Metroid Final: Zorbing experience worth £200
  • Winner of Mario Kart Final: Dinner at Carluccio’s worth £200
  • Winner of Tetris Final: John Lewis vouchers worth £200

Apparently the Grand Final is at 1pm tomorrow which is rubbish for anyone who doesn’t work at Canary Wharf but if you have the time and you’re interested, head over to Canary Wharf (Jubilee Line or DLR) and find the “Giant Nintento Wi-Fi Globes” that house the DS Lites for the competition.

The “Globes” are open until about 7pm and there are staff at each one. There’s a globe in the centre of Canada Place at the junction leading to HSBC and Jubilee Place, just outside Vision Express. There are two in Jubilee Place, one in the centre and one at the end near Marks and Spencer. I didn’t see the other two but they look like this:

Oh, and if you’re over 6 feet tall and don’t like hunching then don’t waste your time. The DS Lites are mounted so low down that you won’t actually be able to see the screen without extremely bad posture.
