Someone agrees with me. Kinda.

Relating to my theory last week on what makes games fun, I found an enjoyable article on the importance of accessibility in games, i.e. that being easy to learn but difficult to master is a Good Thing. Extract below:

“An accessible game that is also a well made game is much more likely to be a smash breakout hit than a game that demands either upfront experience or hours of practice just to learn the basics. Unless we’re talking MMO’s here and those exist in a class all their own. However, an accessible game is not going to be successful just because it’s easy to learn. What is typical of the market is that some of the best games adhere to the concept of “easy to learn but hard to master”. “
