XBOX Live Update

At the end of next week – possibly on Friday 2nd June – Microsoft will release a major update to XBOX Live. The update will apparently takes less than a minute to download and installs itself directly into the flash memory of your console. So will this brick your XBOX if it doesn’t install properly then? Mmm…

The list of updates are as follows:

  • Xbox Live Marketplace – Improved navigation via more folders with meaningful names like Chomp Chomp’s rubbish Movie Trailers and Short Films. About time, as it’s a bloated mess at the moment.
  • Background Download Manager – Finally!!! Download up to 6 files at the same time whilst doing something else, like playing games on your games console.
  • Control Marketplace Videos – Fast forward or rewind your videos, but with added quickness.
  • Enhanced Photo Viewing – Yay. Does anyone look at pictures on their XBOX?
  • Music Player and DVD Playback Improvements – DVD Bookmarking so you can resume a DVD from the point where you pressed stop, even after you’ve turned your console off. Nice.
  • Dashboard Boot-Up – Agggh, don’t load the game in the damn DVD tray! Oooh, now you can stop this happening and go straight to the dashboard like you intended.
  • Friends Status Update – Just like messenger, it now sets your away status automatically.
  • Xbox Live Vision – Camera stuff for when MS release the XBOX 360 camera in September. Totally useless at the moment so don’t bother faffing with it.

Update 6th June 06: Update is scheduled for release at 10am today (06-06-06)! Mmm, what did I say about bricking your XBOX with this…beware The Beast. Wonder if you get any The Omen freebies?
