Networking

Posted on 21 February 2006 by Weefz

Cartoon goateed guy with orange shirt For anyone out there who’s as bewildered by the mysteries of good networking as I am, I found a great series of posts by veteran video game conference networker Darius Kazemi. His system pretty much boils down to nipping off and subtly taking notes on everyone you meet at a games-related event, not just looking for the big guys. You never know when a name will come in handy!

“I was at an interview at a game company, and I saw someone working there who I recognized as “the guy I had Mexican food with who went to school in Texas.” Right there I discretely checked my Palm, found “Mexican food, from Texas” guy, the name rang a bell, and I called out his name. He was happy to see me, and mortally embarassed that he didn’t remember my name. I didn’t hold it against him.”

All his stuff can apply to any networking situation, not just games. Check out the full series of networking articles at Tiny Subversions.

Hey, you got that volunteering/usher/security job thingy you were going for a while back, huh? Congrats! (unless I’m thinking of entirely the wrong person)
