PSP Media Manager (PSP Accessories)

PSP-MediaManagerIconWhat is it? An application which attempts to take the hassle out of transferring audio, video, picture and RSS feeds from your PC to your PSP.
In particular, transferring videos can be a pain as you have to create the folder to hold the video in the correct place on the memory stick and use the correct folder naming format. If not, the PSP simply won’t be able to find your videos. In addition the video also has to be in the correct format (i.e. not avi/mpg/ogg). The media manager simplifies this process allowing you to drag and drop files from your PC to your PSP and re-encodes them (where necessary) so that they are always in the correct format for PSP usage

How much? $19.95 (Download from Sony.com)

What’s good?

  • One click backup of all the files on your PSP (useful for backing up saved games)
  • CD extraction and Gracenote CD album identification making it easy to transfer your music onto your PSP
  • Video file encoding. The media manager converts all your videos so you can watch them on your PSP
  • RSS support allowing you to subscribe to “feeds” and the media manager will deal with the downloading and transferring of the feeds to your PSP
  • It’s blue, with icons just like the ones on your PSP

What’s bad?

  • The fact that you have to pay for it. This should be bundled with every PSP!
  • You need a USB cable in order to use the application

Is it worth the price?
No, not really. Unless you’re interested in the feeds there’s not really much here to justify the price tag as everything else can be done without this software using Windows Explorer and shareware software (e.g. PSP video 9)
