The Average Gamer

Wikipedia needs a games expert!

For those of you who don’t know it, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia where users create and edit the content themselves. Their article on videogames is a mess and desperately needs cleaning up. Someone insists that “computer games” and “video games” mean the same thing and for an encyclopedia, I really don’t think they are interchangable. What about text adventures interactive fiction and the original gold box games? I loved the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy game and Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday! They’re computer games, but you’d hardly call them video games, would you?

They’ve also said that gamers use terms like “entertainment software, interactive entertainment media, electronic interactive entertainment” when referring to both console and PC games. Uhhh… I don’t think so. I fixed that but please remember to check the discussion page before you make any major edits.

While you’re there, have a look at the PC games and Console games articles as well. Console games are covered quite well but the PC games article desperately needs some direction.
