Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – Video, Demo News and Play It Early

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance LogoKonami released a new, 7-minute trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance today. Employing the finest of Shakicams, we see metal-jawed protagonist Raiden being chased through city streets by police cars, shouted at by a man with a moustache and then attacked.

The gameplay section shows off Raiden’s brutal attacks as he slices limbs off police officers and bisects their bodies and hang on… is this what Metal Gear is about? Or is Metal Gear Rising a very specific brand change to indicate a new type of game?

Forgive me, I’ve never actually played a Metal Gear game. Everything I hear tells me that I’ll be in for hour-long cutscenes and hiding in cardboard boxes. Possibly cigarettes. I’m not entirely sure I’ll ever find the time to play one but I certainly wasn’t expecting this:

The playable demo of Revengeance will be available from 23rd January on PS3 and Xbox 360 and will show off Raiden’s Zan-Datsu combat system.

Konami will also be offering 250 UK gamers the chance to get Metal Gear Solid a week earlier than its 22nd February release. You can apply to host a Metal Gear party on 16th February and if you’re one of the lucky ones you’ll be sent a party pack of wristbands, T-shirts, “bespoke party props” and, of course, your advance copy of the game.

You still have to buy the game – one of the conditions is that you must pre-order the game from ShopTo.net and then invite 9 people using a unique link sent out from ComeRound.com. If you agree to participate, you’re not allowed to talk about the storyline of Revengeance and if they catch you selling it before the 22nd they’ll take back your party pack and make you sit on the naughty step.

Seriously. It’s in the terms and conditions. Well, not the naughty step. I’m sure ShopTo will go to great expense to send people round yours and all your friends’ houses to claim back those sweaty T-shirts.

Also noteworthy in the small print: “Party hosts will be selected based on how they fit within the target demographic we are looking for.”

One of the hosts will win the opportunity to meet Hideo Kojima himself. Send in photos of your friends at your party showing off their party pack goodies and you might be the chosen one.

Still interested? Pre-order the game from ShopTo.net (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) and then apply at ComeRound’s Metal Gear Rising Party page.

Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 on 22nd February
