WipEout Now Available On The Xperia PLAY

WipEout on the Xperia PLAYAs soon as Sony Ericsson officially announced the Xperia PLAY smartphone at this year’s Mobile World Congress I was asking the Sony Ericsson people when WipEout was going to be available. WipEout was one of the launch games for the original PlayStation when it finally reached the UK on the 29th Sep 1995. This was the start of my love affair with the racing series that is set to continue with the brilliant WipEout 2048 (hands-on preview this month).

Now, several months after the launch of the Xperia PLAY, WipEout is finally available. Costing £3.99 to download and taking up a paltry 4.9mb of phone memory, it’s on the Android Marketplace now. I cannot recommend this game enough. If you have an Xperia PLAY phone, buy this game. It’s brilliant.

One word of warning though, this is the toughest WipEout game there is. If you hit the sides of the track your ship will grind to a juddering halt and some of the tracks are especially fiendish to fly around. But with a lot of practice, I managed to get a perfect lap on every track in the game, see if you can too.

Since there isn’t a video of the Xperia PLAY version of WipEout currently available, here’s a video from the PS1 original instead. The music is a track from the awesome in-game soundtrack – Cariodrome by CoLD SToRAGE.
