Just Cause 3 – First Trailer and Screenshots

Just Cause 3 - Car Surfing

The first trailer for Just Cause 3 was released today. Coming from Avalanche Studios and Square Enix, it’s worth watching simply for the Torre Florim (of De Staat) cover of Prodigy’s Firestarter, set against a backdrop of slowly crashing cars, statues and flame.

According to the Just Cause 3 blog, this was to illustrate the struggle going on inside protagonist Rico’s head. “We wanted to show Rico’s internal struggle and drive. His home is being destroyed, his people are suffering. No surprise he is… not pleased,” wrote Petra Opelova, Just Cause 3 Community Manager. “And what better way to show how Rico feels than take you into his head? Well, we couldn’t think of one, so there it is.”

As for why there’s no gameplay being shown yet? Christofer Sundberg, Co-founder & CCO, Avalanche Studios had this to say. “We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on, and we take a lot of pride in it. That’s why we want to make sure the first gameplay trailer we put out shows what Just Cause 3 is about, and that it meets both ours and your expectations. And that takes time. We don’t want to rush things and disappoint the very community that has been supporting us for so long. So, while you wait, please kick back and enjoy the soothing explosions of the Firestarter trailer. Soon enough, there will be plenty of ’holy shit’ moments to go around for everyone as we increase the mayhem level a few notches with the very first look at gameplay.”

He sure used a lot of words to say “Nope.” Still, here’s a bunch of screenshots that show car-surfing, parachuting, amazing landscapes and explosions. Lots more over on the JC3 blog.
