Those who follow me on Twitter or read the Friday Night Unplugged article on Magic: The Gathering a few months ago will know my opinions on the subject. It’s cardboard crack in a foil wrapper. But what happens if like me you eventually run out of money and want to keep playing? That’s what Duels of The Planeswalkers is for. Last year’s entrant Magic 2013 – DoTP  with it’s solid campaign and easy deck manager has been on my iPad since release (read Debbie’s review here).

This year the imaginatively titled Magic 2014 – Duels of The Planeswalkers will arrive on all the major platforms for your card-drawing pleasure and it’s upping its game. Alongside the standard campaign from previous versions Magic 2014 will include a new Sealed Play mode. Sealed play in physical MTG gives each player 6 booster packs from the set being played. Players then open their packs and must build a 40 card minimum deck from the cards provided, with the non-used cards representing their side-board. DoTP Sealed Play does exactly the same but it then challenges you to defeat its campaign with your sealed pool.

Along with the new Sealed Play mode Magic 2014 also (re)introduces a set of creature cards that will be featured in both the Magic 2014 DoTP card set and the soon-to-be-launching M14 core set for physical MTG. Slivers are a hive mind species intent on devouring and evolving their way across the planes; they’re a popular creature type from the history of MTG.

Part Gorrila, part Zerg the new Slivers are a force to be reckoned with.

New features, new creatures and an overhauled interface. Magic 2014 – Duels of the Planeswalkers is shaping up to be a tasty treat for new and old MTG fans alike.
