working in A.BANK.... its under the visa laws that if a company charges you for a service that gets paid for the card company have to honour it.

Its automatic and recurring subs are a big cause of woe (i work in collections... many people cancel card- pay in full clear balance. Few months later, RAC membership/AA, AOL, Xbox etc sub goes through, adds balance, they dont know, dont pay anything, fall into arrears, charges... etc) AOL are a bugger for it.

In regards to DPA.... i dont know how it stands, AFAIK if miscrosoft operate in the UK they HAVE to abide by DPA. They can pass your details to other countries as long as they are confident that those countries have adequate protection measures in place (so they would happily send your details to the US... or elsewhere in europe... but probably not Zimbabwe)

I have XBL... got my credit card registered but currently a block because I put my initials when signing up for XBL whereas my card has my full name...

get in touch with the ICO... im planning to, I have no issues yet but 30 days to remove my billing info is criminal.

MS did this to me. I wanted them to help me with something on my acocunt. Just to test the CC still worked they took R2 (I live in SA - about 12 pence) from my card without my permission and without asking. Subsequently I canceled the card as there had been fraudulant unauthorised transactions from MS.
Now they send me mails everyweek telling me to update my CC details as they cannot charge it. Fook them!
What's worse is when my account and CC was active MS wouldn't let me buy points simply because I live in South Africa but they can charge my CC for membership?! Bye bye Microsoft.

Lol, what I just did was transferred my services to one of those paypal virtual credit card thingies, then cancelled the card from paypal. No more eternally recurring charges you can't conveniently cancel. :)

I just found out about this apparent problem with microsoft. It seems pretty rampant, as far as I've seen with the xbox live community. I'm actually in the process of "trying" to delete the CC info in my account as I post this (it's been 27 minutes so far, bastard must think I'd hang up). "SIGH", I suppose microsoft likes to take millions of dollars from people who don't even use their services.

I wasn't aware that this was even an option, I say that because I keep getting email reminders from Microsoft to re-new my Live! membership - I think I need to get back into Xbox 360 gaming before I do that otherwise I'll probably be wasting my money again!

Ive been getting charged by Microsoft for the past 2 years. I dont have a Visa card, so my mother very kindly let me "borrow" hers so I could pay for 1 month of Live. 2 years later and its still being charged despite numerous attempts to cancel it. Last year her card expired so I thought that would be the last of it but no, despite her new card having an entirely different number that is now being charged too!
What started as a very kind gesture by my mother has now turned into a rather embarrassing situation where my mother is getting extremely angry unless I get it sorted :(

Check out ShopShield.net. Next time use a disposable credit card to pay for stuff like that! I actually had to cancel a bank account recently because Napster wouldn't stop charging me...
